Important dates in the preparation of the Roman Missal

In accord with the norms established by decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites in Cum, nostra ætate (27 January 1966), the English typical editions of the Roman Missal and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal of the Missale Romanum secundum editionem typicam tertiam and the Institutio Generalis Missalis Romani, editio typica tertia for the Dioceses of the Canada, and are to be published by the authority of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.

This is the sole English translation and version of the Roman Missal approved for use in the Dioceses of Canada, beginning with the First Sunday of Advent, 27 November 2011.

25 November: 1st round of shipping completed
10 November: Shipping begins.
9 November: Roman Missal presented to Pope Benedict XVI
3 November: Mass in the 21st Century published
1 September: Printing and binding.
22 August: Pew card co-published with Novalis
8 August: files shipped to printer.
29 July: proofing completed on The Roman Missal.
18 July: www.romanmissal.ca goes live.
14 July: Final approval and confirmation from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
15 June: Format and design approved by the Permanent Council of the CCCB.
14 June: Format and design approval by the Executive Committee of the CCCB.
6 April: Proofreading begins (8 rounds over 3 proofs).
1 March: Manuscript delivered to the Publications Service.
11 February: By Prot. N. 386/10/L, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved and confirmed the text of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal with the Adaptations for use in the Dioceses of Canada.
10 February: By Prot. N. 107/11/L, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved and confirmed the variations to the English text of the Propers of the Mass contained in this edition for use in the Dioceses of Canada.
9 February: By Prot. N. 108/11/L, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments confirmed the Proper Calendar for the Dioceses of Canada.
9 February: Episcopal Committee on Liturgy met to confirm earlier discussions on layout and to recommend approval of the style of layout to the Executive

21 December: English text arrives from ICEL to CCCB National Liturgy Office
18-19 November: National Council for Liturgy, National Council for Liturgical Music and the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and the Sacraments all met with Publications to offer guidance on layout
October-November: Bishops of the English sector surveyed on layout options
2 September: The Proper Calendar for the Dioceses of Canada, approved by canonical vote of the Bishops of Canada, was sent for confirmation by the President of this Conference.
18 June: By Prot. N. 1224/07/L, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved and confirmed the English translation of the Roman Missal contained in this edition for use in the Dioceses of Canada.
8 April: The English translation of the third typical edition of the Roman Missal, approved by canonical vote of the Bishops of Canada, was sent for recognitio by the President of this Conference.
8 April: The variations to the English translation of the Propers of the Mass, approved by canonical vote of the Bishops of Canada, were sent for recognitio by the President of this Conference.
16 March: The English translation of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, approved by canonical vote of the Bishops of Canada, was sent for recognitio by the President of this Conference.
